Impact

Over the years, students and teachers have provided valuable feedback about their experiences of the taking part in the project.

John Rolfe MBE Global School Alliance Leader, UK

John has worked with Sharon for over 15 years, mainly through her intercultural work whilst he worked with the British Council.  John spotlights Sharon's commitment to enriching inclusive education through inspring teachers with her creative projects.

Sarah Ausborn, Primary Teacher, USA

Sarah has been invovled in the project since it started and shares her experience of the project where she finds the project accessible to all and likes that it enables students to have a voice and ownership of the project.  She talks about how the project bridges the gap across time and space and how the project has changed how she works with her pupils, where interculutral learning is now embedded in their curriculum.

Neve Crombie, Probationer Primary Teacher, Scotland

Neve shares how she was inspired to take part in the the VOTW project, initially through attending the music and makaton lunchtime sessions that Sharon runs at the University of Dundee for her students.  Due to Sharon making learning makaton fun and engaging, and encouraging and supporting Neve to try this on placement, Neve had great success that she now incoporates Makaton daily into her classroom practice with her probation class.  She has also taken her learning further by completing level 1 or Makaton training and is about to embarl on level 2, which she credits to Sharon for introducing her to this form of communication.  With regards to interculutral learning, this is now embdeded in her practice through using the VOTW project to bring the world into her class.
